If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.
Ron Paul Gets More Money
Mine, that is. Watching tonight's debate in New Hampshire has served to bolster my support for Ron Paul more than ever. The squirming, meaningless patriotic rhetoric, and general grasping at straws by the other candidates, and especially by the "news correspondents", has earned Ron Paul's candidacy a place in history and in my dwindling pocketbook.
I'm not rich. I can't afford a lot right now. In fact, I've gone from supporting one household with two jobs in one state, to supporting two households in two states with one job. Ron Paul needs the support regardless of my situation. Why?
Because he stands for all the things that make it possible for me to succeed and change my situation: opportunity, responsibility, accountability, honor, intelligence, work, and principle.
In a world filled with cries for entitlement based, not on merit but, on who complains loudest, Ron Paul stands out as the person who will step back and allow us to make our own mistakes, enjoy our own successes, and decide our own destinies.
Dr. Paul's matter-of-fact tone in the exchange with former Governor Huckabee tonight exposed the empty rhetoric behind Huckabee's pseudo-patriotic mantra. Mr. Huckabee, I agree that we must be honorable. I just disagree over what we need to honor. Sir, we need to honor the Constitution for the United States of America. We not only broke Iraq, but we broke our country first as well. You talk about how your momma taught you to pay for things you broke at the store, but what about all the things your momma worked hard for and bought you that lay broken on your bedroom floor? Don't you have any responsibility to bear for that? How does your lack of appreciation make your momma feel? Did you earn those toys? I wonder how differently you would have treated those things if you would have worked for and bought them with your own sacrifice? No, the honor is not in Iraq. The honor is right here. And only Ron Paul sees this. I am grateful for the sacrifices made for THIS country. When we put our own house in order, perhaps we can help others by example, not by force. That would be the honorable thing to do.
Dr. Ron Paul's grassroots is on fire. This campaign will continue to grow and gain support. I fear that, as more people join the movement, they may not fully understand the message of freedom AND responsibility. I hope that the message comes across without alienating entire segments of people. I am seeing a lot of the left-wing jumping aboard. I don't see it as detrimental, though I see some obstacles to overcome. We cannot allow the entitlement, socialist, collective mindset to creep into the ranks. If it does, it needs to be corrected plainly, simply, and kindly. I hope that all the supporters of Ron Paul's message will take time to educate, support, and inform those who are finding the appeal of liberty so enticing but haven't quite taken the plunge due to some unanswered concern or doubt. Tell the truth firmly and with principle.
